Applications and characteristics of basic zinc carbonate


Basic zinc carbonate is used in the production of light astringents and latex products. It is used as an analytical reagent and also in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used as a feed additive and as a zinc supplement for feeding. It is used in medicine as a skin protectant; as a desulphurising agent in the fertiliser industry; in industry as a light astringent and latex product, as well as in oven-glycerine detergent, and also in the production of rayon.



The mother liquor for the preparation of zinc salt from zinc oxide ore powder is used as raw material. The mother liquor is heated to 78 ~ 85 and solid ammonium bicarbonate is added under constant stirring to control the pH of the reactants to 6.0 ~ 6.5 and stop the reaction to obtain alkaline zinc carbonate.

Basic zinc carbonate needs to be stored in a cool, ventilated and dry warehouse. It should not be stored and transported together with acids and bases. Take care to protect against moisture. During transport, it should be protected from rain, dampness, sun and heat. In case of fire, you can extinguish the fire with water, sand and fire extinguisher.

There are two common methods for preparing nano-alkaline zinc carbonate, the symmetric precipitation method and the room temperature solid phase method. Basic zinc carbonate is made from zinc sulphate and ammonium bicarbonate, which enables the preparation of zinc oxide nanoparticles.

Basic zinc carbonate is widely used as a desulphurising agent, catalyst and feed additive in the pharmaceutical, rubber, latex products, petrochemical and fertiliser industries. As a vulcanising activity for rubber, zinc oxide can sometimes be substituted in equal amounts. Generally, due to the difference in molecular weight, the dosage is higher than that of zinc oxide to obtain the same degree of vulcanisation. It is more soluble in rubber than fine zinc oxide and can therefore be used extensively in the manufacture of transparent products. Its vulcanised rubber is lighter in colour, more transparent and has stronger hardening properties than zinc oxide. It can also substantially increase the viscosity of rubber, improve the shape stability of extruded products and free vulcanised products, and improve the mechanical properties of vulcanised rubber.
