2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl methacrylate, TFEMA is a kind of transparent colorless liquid with character of polymerization and ester smell, and TFEMA with the –CF3 radical has a good compatibility to general monomers and monomers with high contain of fluorine. It could be applied in new polymerization system, be used for regulating fluorine, ameliorate and show the functionality of resin. TFEMA is easy to occur free radical polymerization, noumenon polymerization, solution polymerization and emulsion polymerization. In noumenon polymerization or solution polymerization, the organic hyperoxide / benzoyl peroxide and azo free radical revulsant / 2,2’-Azo-bis-isobutyronitrile could be used, Whereas in emulsion-polymerization, the water-solubility revulsion, such as potassium peroxy disulfate or ammonium persulfate could be used. TFEMA could be polymerized with representative ethylene monomer such as acrylate ester, styrene, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, vinyl acetic acid and other aciylate esters containing fluorine, and it also could be used for oleoresinal, thermoplastic, thermoset, emulsional paints and other materials.
