What is basic zinc carbonate? What does it do?

Basic zinc carbonate is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula Zn2 (OH) 2co3, a small white amorphous powder, odourless and tasteless, insoluble in water and alcohol, slightly soluble in ammonia, soluble in dilute acids and sodium hydroxide, mainly used in light astringent and latex products, skin care agents, rayon production and desulphurisation agents, analytical reagents, pharmaceutical industry, feed additives. This is a zinc salt master batch prepared from zinc oxide ore powder. The mother liquor is heated to 78 ~ 85°C and solid ammonium bicarbonate is added with constant stirring. The reaction is terminated by controlling the pH of the reactants at 6.0 ~ 6.5 to give alkaline zinc carbonate.

It is used in the production of light astringent and latex products, skin protectants, rayon and desulphurising agents. It is used as an analytical reagent and also in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used as a feed additive and as a zinc supplement in feed. Basic zinc carbonate is used as an analytical reagent and as a raw material for the preparation of pigments, talcum powder and skin ointments. It is used in latex film products, pigments, rayon, catalytic desulphurisation agents, and in medicine as a light astringent, preservative, talc, disinfectant and skin ointment. Because its transparency is close to that of natural rubber, alkaline zinc carbonate is used as a reinforcing agent and curing accelerator in transparent rubber products. It is generally harmless to water and do not release the substance into the surroundings. Store in a cool, ventilated and dry warehouse. Goods that cannot be stored and mixed with acids and bases. Watch out for moisture. Protect from rain, moisture, sun and heat during transport. Water is available in case of fire. Sand and fire extinguishers.

Alkaline zinc carbonate has an activating effect and accelerates the formation of cross-linked bonds by double bonding of rubber molecules in an acidic manner. In certain vulcanisation systems, it increases the crosslink density of vulcanised rubber. In alkaline promoters or combinations thereof, it often has the advantage of delaying the sulphur point. In addition, stearic acid improves the pumping effect of the filler and also attenuates the tendency of the compound to stick to rolls. If the rubber conjecture is correct, the amount of stearic acid can be tripled with the addition of large amounts of the reinforcing agent carbon black. However, when the amount of stearic acid is high, the bond between rubber and metal is weakened.

Zinc stearate, produced during the vulcanisation process between zinc oxide and stearic acid, is less soluble in butadiene rubber, so the excessive use of stearic acid can cause spattering with butadiene rubber. Basic zinc carbonate is used as a skin care product in medicine, as a zinc supplement in feed, as a light astringent and latex product in industry, as a furnace glycerine detergent, and as the main raw material for desulphurisation agents and catalysts in the rayon and fertiliser industries, and also widely used in rubber products, paints and other chemical products.
