Ammonium zinc chloride uses and content determination
2021-09-17
Ammonium zinc chloride was once known as "zinc butter". Zinc chloride is a versatile chemical that is often found in everyday life. Ammonium zinc chloride binds water easily and has good water absorption, making it an ideal compound for maintaining the purity of water, and is also a good conductor of electricity, making it a useful electronic compound. It provides the zinc needed by plants and animals, making it an important dietary compound. Learn more about ammonium zinc chloride uses and content determination below!
Water Treatment
Ammonium zinc chloride helps to slow down the rate of corrosion of other metals by water. In addition, drinking water, gas and oil contain zinc chloride, which is needed in sufficient quantities for better crop cultivation. Zinc solutions are available for crops in areas with zinc deficient soils. Manufacturers use zinc chloride as a chelating agent and combine it with other compounds to create this zinc product.
Fluxes
Welders use a flux containing zinc chloride to help solder two pieces of metal. The flux acts as a cleaning agent to remove oxides and impurities from the surface of the metal, which improves the welding fastness very well.
Dry cell
Dry batteries use zinc chloride gel to control the electrons and help to power them. Zinc chloride is also resistant to moisture and corrosion. The low manufacturing cost makes them suitable for intermittent power supply devices such as flashing barrier lights, navigation devices and electronic watches.
How to determine the amount of zinc chloride
If test conditions are available, additional zinc chloride can be added based on the analytical results; however, many electroplating plants do not have test conditions and can be supplemented based on empirical judgement. Two empirical methods for determining the amount of zinc chloride are presented.
Method 1 :Density method
Take a 250ml beaker and weigh its mass, then take 250ml of tank liquid and weigh its total mass. In this way, the mass of the beaker is subtracted from the total mass to obtain the mass of the 250ml tank solution, divided by the volume of 250ml to obtain the density. The density of the solution is used to estimate the zinc chloride content. The density method is susceptible to interference, but is still informative.
Method 2: Determining the mass concentration of zinc chloride by scorching
Firstly, the pH is measured and adjusted to a normal value (measured with a precision pH test paper) as scorching occurs when the pH is too high and the metal hydroxides and oxides generated are mediated in the plating.
In step 2: determine if the concentration of the additive is appropriate based on the brightness of the plating, as too high a concentration of additive results in too much cathodic polarisation.
Step 3: 5min electrostatic plating in 250mL Hep tank 2A. If the burnt area is 1~2 mm, the mass concentration of zinc chloride is normal; if it is larger than 2 mm and the zinc chloride is low, you can retry with appropriate supplement; if there is no burnt, the mass concentration of zinc chloride will become higher.
